Sarah Harding as villain in X-Men: First Class

We’re only a few weeks away from the production start of  X-Men: First Class and while we await the final casting decisions to be made, we do have some new updates regarding another potential villainous cast member, several mutant models and a Kick-Ass composer who’ll be helping to score the film.

In our last in-depth discussion on X-Men: First Class, we explored the idea of whether or not the film would be a true prequel to the exiting X-Men franchise or if it’ll act as a reboot. While some recent interviews hinted that it could be out of continuity, director Matthew Vaughn partially clarified the matter and opened the doors to speculation regarding time travel and other comic book conventions that could explain the plot and…

Helen Mirren in The Tempest

Julie Taymor, the woman who adapted The Lion King for Broadway and brought us cinematic feasts such as Across The Universe, Frida, and the hedonistically violent Titus now takes on Shakespeare’s last and possibly greatest play, The Tempest.

The newly released images seen here depict some of the films central characters. Helen Mirren will be turning in a gender bending depiction of the film’s (typically male) lead Prospero, now Prospera. She is seen here wielding her fiery and wondrous magic as the exiled Duchess.

The film tells the tale of the Duchess Proaperas’ banishment to a “primitive” Island with her young daughter where she is forced to master the elements of nature and magic. Prospera plots to return her Daughter to her rightful place and wreak revenge on those responsible…

‘The Office’ Producers Interested in Danny McBride and Rhys Darby

August 12th, 2010 by lawwebbhh651109j87hN5gxp2l | Comments Off | Filed in Movie

With Steve Carell’s imminent departure from The Office hanging over NBC, producers have already begun laying the groundwork for a seventh season that acts as a fitting farewell to the Michael Scott character and also secures the future of the show. Inevitably, this means bringing in some new blood and according to EW, the top two actors in consideration to join the Dunder-Miflin team are Danny McBride and Rhys Darby.

Both actors have been asked if they’d be interested in joining the show later in the upcoming season, but not necessarily as Carell’s replacement.

Showrunner Paul Lieberstein insists they “haven’t settled exactly who will take over” and discussions regarding the addition of a new salesman to the Scranton branch seem to indicate that’s the role McBride or Darby would be filling, should one of them choose to sign on.

In an…

Fox to Produce Super Hero Movie ‘Chronicle’

Fox making 'Chronicle' super hero movie

Max Landis, son of Hollywood director John Landis, is in negotiations to have Twentieth Century Fox produce his spec script Chronicle. The younger Landis has written episodes of Masters of Horror and NBC’s Fear Itself. Josh Trank who edited 2009’s critically acclaimed Big Fan is attached to direct.  Trank is another son of Hollywood, his father Richard Trank having won an Academy Award for his documentary The Long Way Home in 1997.

Chronicle has a couple of potential public opinion hurdles to overcome before the ink has even had a chance to dry on the deal. First, with a near constant influx of super hero movies it is easy to dismiss this as just another in a steady stream of look-a-likes.  Second, there will likely be some knee jerk…

Michael Emerson Talks ‘Lost’ Leak & TV Series with Terry O’Quinn

Michael Emerson Terry O'Quinn Show

If you’re a fan of Lost you’ve probably put-in your order for the Complete Collection on Blu-ray and, if you’re like me, are hopeful for at least one deleted scene featuring a bit of Ben Linus/John Locke banter.

However, should the Lost special features fail to deliver in this particular area of interest, it sounds as if the actors themselves (Michael Emerson & Terry O’Quinn) might have something up their sleeves. The Emmy-award-winning actors are shopping around a new TV project, and while it’s not an extension of the Lost universe, it would see the twosome partnered on screen.

According to the Associated Press, Emerson has confirmed that he and O’Quinn are pitching a “somewhat more lighthearted” show that “acknowledges the age and frailty of the actors involved” -…

SR Pick [Video]: Every Star Wars Lightsaber Iginition & Retraction

star wars darth vader luke skywalker lightsaber duel

As Star Wars fans know, half the fun of traveling to a galaxy far, far, away is the anticipation of seeing somebody whip out their lightsaber and pop that bad boy up to full length.

Well, those of you with a serious lightsaber fetish can now get your kicks with a handy little video, which (supposedly) collects every scene in the entire Star Wars saga featuring Jedi and Sith igniting their signature weapons. The video is bookened with every scene of a lightsaber being powered down and stowed away.

Now, I used the word “fetish” in half-jest, but in the case of the Star Wars prequels it’s a pretty accurate description – if the video montage below is any indication. There is a pretty serious disparity between the amount of epic lightsaber action…

The Other Guys Review

Will Ferrell, Steve Coogan and Mark Wahlberg in The Other Guys review
Screen Rant’s Vic Holtreman reviews The Other Guys

Disclaimer: I am not huge fan of Anchorman and my favorite Will Ferrel performance is from the film that put him on the map as a theatrical comedic actor: Elf. I know that people find the guy funny but to me, he plays essentially the same role in many of his films – clueless, yet egotistical with over-abundant quantities of self-esteem that would make any under-performing yet cocky high school kid blush.

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play detectives Allen Gamble and Terry Hoitz, terribly mismatched police partners who are essentially paper-pushers at their precinct. At the beginning of the film they (and everyone else in the police station) are vastly overshadowed by a pair of super-cops played by Samuel L….

Tony Scott Mark Millar Nemesis

Mark Millar may be his own biggest fan, but there’s no denying that Hollywood has developed a lucrative interest in him over the last few years. The latest title from Millar’s catalog to get the big-screen treatment is Nemesis - a comic book with the intriguing tag line: “What if Batman was the Joker?”

Here’s another intriguing tag line: “directed by Tony Scott.”

It’s been six month since we first heard talk of a Nemesis adaptation. Now, Bleeding Cool reports that Tony Scott (Man on Fire) has signed on to direct Nemesis – with Deadline confirming the news.

For decades various writers have implied how many similarities Batman shares with his adversaries and how easily he…

Avatar 2 & 3 Shoot Back-to-Back

With the upcoming re-release of James Cameron’s Avatar only a few weeks away, there’s been renewed interest in every last morsel of information regarding Avatar 2. Cameron has previously indicated that the sequel will delve into regions of Pandora unexplored in the first film (specifically the planet’s oceans) and that he has no intentions of rushing into it.

Despite the fact that Avatar 2 is still several years away, it turns out it might not be too soon to start speculating over Avatar 3 as well.

In an interview with MTV, Cameron reveals that he’s talked to the studio about shooting back-to-back sequels – so that they can capture the performances for both films all at once.

So…

Awesome Fake Posters for ‘Scott Pilgrim’ Evil-Ex Lucas Lee

August 7th, 2010 by lawwebbhh651109j87hN5gxp2l | Comments Off | Filed in Movie

You Just Don't Exist Scott Pilgrim Lucas Lee

There are many fantastic aspects to Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, but my personal favorite is Chris Evans’ turn as the egomaniacal A-lister – Lucas Lee. Universal has released posters for several of the superstar actor’s fake films – and each is just as funny as the next.

You may remember the brilliant fake trailers at the beginning of Tropic Thunder. It’s easy to forget that the fake opening sequence was arguably the funniest moment of the film. Scott Pilgrim shares a similar brand of humor, by sprinkling Lucas Lee throughout the film on numerous televisions and banners. The foreshadowing of Chris Evans’ eventual character involvement is epic in its playfulness.

In the film, Scott Pilgrim must fight and defeat the seven…
